Alcohol is one of the most widely used drug substances in the world. Drinking alcohol beverages is a common feature of social gatherings in many countries around the world. Consumption of alcohol and patterns of drinking may vary from one region to another. However, alcohol is most consumed in Europe and the
former Soviet states where one in five male deaths is caused by drink. According to the researches, it is the Moldovans who drink more than any other nations of the world. They consume 18.2 litres of alcohol which is 2 litres more than the Czechs in the second place. The consumption of alcohol brings about many serious consequences such as its adverse health outcomes and social effects.

- Alkol, dünyada en çok kullanılan etkin maddelerden birisidir. Alkollü içecekler içmek dünyadaki birçok ülkede sosyal olarak bir araya gelmenin genel bir özelliğidir. Alkol tüketimi ve içki içme şekilleri bir bölgeden diğerine değişiklik gösterebilir. Ancak,
alkol en fazla Avrupa’da ve erkekler arasındaki ölümlerin beşte birinin alkol nedeniyle olduğu eski Sovyet ülkelerinde tüketilir. Araştırmacılara göre, dünyanın diğer milletlerinden daha fazla için millet Moldovyalılardır. İkinci sıradaki Çek Cumhuriyeti vatandaşlarından 2 litre daha fazla olarak 18.2 litre alkol tüketirler. Alkol tüketimi kötü sağlık sonuçları ya da sosyal etkileri gibi ciddi sonuçlar doğurur.
